About the Award
Albert Lecoff designed and crafted the Bob Stout Award. He is the Executive Director of the Wood Turning Center, a nonprofit organization devoted to furthering the growth and awareness of woodturning. He is also editor of Turning Point, a newsletter about his craft. Born in Philadelphia, Albert graduated from Temple University in 1973. He also holds a degree in Art Education from Antioch University. He has organized conferences and shows around the country and has lectured in the United States and England, and the Netherlands.
Albert received his early training as a gymnast under former Temple gymnast Len DePue at Cheltenham High School. During his high school gymnastics career Albert often competed against rival Abington High School, where Bob Stout was coach. After high school he went on to compete for Temple University under Coach Bill Coco. Having the opportunity to train alongside Bob as a young gymnast greatly influenced Albert. It was the inspiration he received from Bob and the generous financial support of alumni and friends that led to the creation of this fine award.
Each recipient receives a replica of the original award, which remains on permanent display in McGonigle Hall at Temple University. With each new recipient, a plaque with their name and the date of the honor is added to the base of the award.
A duplicate of the award was presented to the Stout family, wife Marie, son Richard, and daughter Susan following the first presentation in 1985.
